Both Ayahuasca and Wachuma known as the younger brother of Ayahuasca, are sacred plants that have the purpose of teaching you many transcendental things through visions and symbolism interpreted by yourself and the shamans with much love and wisdom. Ayahuasca and Wachuma are sacred plants and medicinal concoctions that are healing and helping many people around the world.
Meanwhile, the Ayahuasca ceremonies help to understand oneself, to find and heal the lost parts of the soul: it is an inner journey. Wachuma rituals help open our hearts and show us the divinity within and outside of us and make us experience the connection with the world around us.
Highlights of our Wachuma and Ayahuasca Retreat in Cusco
Trip Overview of our Wachuma and Ayahuasca Retreat in Cusco
IMPORTANT NOTE: In these 4 days of Wachuma and Ayahuasca Journey, we only do 2 Ayahuasca ceremonies and 1 Wachuma ritual, because only 2 Ayahuasca rituals and 1 Wachuma ritual that lasts 5 to 6 hours each of them, brings a gigantic accumulation of varied visions; which need to be processed and interpreted correctly by our shamans in the following days. Doing more than 3 ceremonies in a short period of days is overload yourself with visions; and therefore they cannot be processed or interpreted correctly. If you want to know more about our healing programs only with Ayahuasca, visit the following link: Ayahuasca retreat in the Cusco Amazon
If you would like to do a 5-day trek through the Inca Trail or the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, we have treks that offer you the possibility of doing yoga, meditation and a suitable diet for an Ayahausca ceremony. More information in the following tab: Ayahuasca preparation treks
This incredible healing journey with Ayahuasca and Wachuma begins with the pick-up from your hotel at 5:00 am. Then we will be driven in our private transport for 2 hours and 30 minutes to the Tres Cruces viewpoint. From this viewpoint we officially enter the Manu National Park, considered one of the most megadiverse in the world. After an organic diet, we will descend for 2 hours on bicycles through a beautiful landscape of the beginning of the Amazon jungle. We carry out this cycling activity, so that the ride to the house where we will experience the Ayahuasca ceremonies, is not so long and boring. Once we arrive at the retreat house, we will have a light diet based on vegetables and fruits. Then we start with all the connection activities, which will help you to receive Ayahuasca in a better way. The connective sessions with mother Ayahuasca are listed and done in the order in which we will do them.
People who do not want to be in the private van for the 5 hours of transfer from your hotel to the place where we will do the Ayahuasca ceremonies, have the possibility of going down by bicycle for 2 hours.
After a light diet, we will go to a section of the river, where we will have a guided meditation session. Meditation is an ancient practice that allows you to dominate the mind and at the same time achieve a state of full consciousness. It is also a technique that reduces stress and increases general well-being. An ancestral activity that allows you to better perceive the teachings of Ayahuasca.
Later, we can take a dip in the river, which is calm and crystal clear. In addition to refreshing us, our shaman will also take advantage of this moment to play sacred sounds with Andean and Western instruments and thus allow your body, mind and spirit to expand and allow the healing and purifying power of water to enter.
In the afternoon we have a contemplation activity. In the Ayahuasca house we have 6 Peruvian Step horses, we will ride these beautiful animals observing an integrating sunset and twilight. The integration and contemplation activities help to have an intense connection with the mother Ayahuasca and your inner and divine being.
Then, we will have a meeting with our Ayahuasca shaman. In this meeting, the incredible benefits of an Ayahuasca retreat will be discussed, your intentions and objectives to be achieved with the help of the sacred plant and also how to better channel the visions of Ayahuasca at the time of the ceremony.
Before performing the first Ayahuasca ceremony, you will have some time alone, so that you can meditate, accentuate your intentions and objectives and prepare yourself in every aspect to receive mother Ayahuasca.
The Ayahuasca ritual begins at 8 pm. and lasts about 5 hours. Throughout the ceremony and until the moment you enter your rooms to sleep, our coordinators and our shaman will be on hand to help you in everything that is necessary. Without a doubt, this first encounter with Ayahuasca will be magical.
** Ayahuasca is an ancestral medicine, used by the Amazonian peoples, therefore the best place for a ceremony is the Amazon jungle. The sounds of the animals at night, the music of the river and the forest create a magical atmosphere of energetic frequencies.
NOTE: The rooms are shared by two Ayahuasca lovers and the bathrooms are outside from the rooms, the toilets are shared as well. We have a capacity of 5 twin rooms.
The sunrise in our Ayahuasca retreat house is beautiful. in addition to a stunning first light over the Amazon plain, the sound of the 2 rivers that surround the house and the singing of birds create an atmosphere straight out of a fairy tale. This second day is full of learning, purification and contemplation. After a nutritious organic breakfast, we will go to our Maloca (circular wooden construction, built especially for Ayahuasca ceremonies).
All the participants will meet in the Maloca and there, with the help of our coordinators, the shaman will interpret the visions and symbolism obtained in the Ayahuasca ceremony. The interpretations provided by the shamans are based on their wisdom and experience. To better understand interpretations, first to unlearn and then relearn.
We will go to one of the rivers to perform a flowering ceremony with medicinal and aromatic flowers from the Amazon. These types of ceremonies are always performed after an Ayahuasca ceremony, since it allows the body, mind and spirit to be purified of energy, frequency and negative vibration.
In the afternoon we will go to the banks of the river, where there are some natural pools, a very magical place in the forest. Here, together with our shaman, we will perform the Wachuma or San Pedro ceremony in direct contact with nature. The Wachuma is a sacred plant that allows you to enter into harmony and divinity with the natural elements that surround us and find love in them. Imagine how magical it can be to perform this ceremony in a place as powerful and energetic as our Ayahuasca retreat house. This ceremony with the brother of the mother Ayahuasca will have a duration of approximately 4 hours and will be done all afternoon.
** Keep in mind that Ayahuasca and Wachuma works differently in each spiritual being and one thing is to have an appreciation of Ayahuasca based on the experience of your friends or the books you have read and the one you will have once you start on this journey of spiritual and healing, with these sacred alternative medicines.
Our coordinators will wake you up with a fresh organic fruit smoothie and after you have got ready we will go to a plain where we will do an incredible activity of integration and preparation for our second Ayahuasca healing ceremony.
This is an Andean meditation technique that allows you to feel the energy and vibration of Mother Earth (called Pachamama in the Andes and the Peruvian Amazon). We will carry out this guided meditation observing the sunrise and barefoot feeling the energetic frequency of the earth and the grass.
After a vegetarian and nutritious breakfast, we will take a 3-hour hike into the forest. A local guide, along with an interpreter, will lead us through a path where there is a diversity of medicinal and sacred plants. We will learn about the importance of plants for the indigenous population and also about their healing properties and benefits for the world. You will be able to see, touch, smell and learn about more than 20 plants on this tour.
After a light and vegetarian lunch, we will go to the banks of the river to carry out a guided session of Kundalini yoga. This type of yoga teaches you to have conscious control of the mental, physical and nervous energies of the body with the idea of making the most of them. It is an ancient technique that is also known as the Yoga of Consciousness, and is considered one of the most powerful styles: According to many experts, 12 years of Hatha Yoga practice is equivalent to 1 year of Kundalini Yoga practice.
Broadly speaking, we can tell you that practicing Kundalini will help you control your breathing and focus your thoughts, while the postures serve to balance the glandular system and strengthen the nervous system, activity that will help channel Ayahuasca in a better way.
At night we will go to our Maloca and we will start with our second spiritual healing ceremony with Ayahuasca. Ayahuasca treats in each ceremony different physical, mental and spiritual aspects that need to be healed.
After a nutritious breakfast, we will enter our Maloca so that our shaman will help us decipher the symbolism and the visualizations obtained in the Ayahuasca ceremony. Later we will go to the river to perform a purification ceremony with Amazonian plants and flowers. After some free time for your own contemplation, we will go to plant a native tree or an Ayahuasca vine. This tree will be yours forever, we will take care of its care and maintenance and we will send you annual photos of its growth. This activity also helps us to reforest parts of the Manu National Park depredated by illegal loggers. At noon we will have a delicious typical lunch of the Peruvian jungle and then we will board our van back to Cusco, where we will arrive around 7:00 pm.
** Unfortunately our transcendental journey of healing with this ancestral concoction of Ayahuasca in our retreat house has ended, however a more holistic lifestyle has just begun for all of you.

Bringing what is recommended on the packing list is essential for a better experience within your Wachuma and Ayahuasca retreat in the Amazon.
Our bodies are full of toxic and inorganic substances that will not allow us to receive mother Ayahuasca properly. The vast majority of the foods that we currently consume contain large amounts of preservatives, so a proper diet for at least a week before the Wachuma and Ayahuasca retreat is recommended to better channel the teachings of this powerful ancestral medicine.
Ayahuasca expert Alan Shoemaker expanded on this idea; in his book: «Ayahuasca Medicine, the Shamanic World of Amazonian Sacred Plant Healing». Plant diets are designed to help a person connect with plant spirits and develop new healing abilities, vision, and knowledge; that require a lot of time, in solitude and with a strict dietary regimen. When you follow a strict required diet, you become more accessible to the spirit world.”
Tranquilize or cleanse the body to achieve a spiritual state; It will be a familiar idea to anyone who has practiced yoga. Yoga asana such as physical positions such as: downward facing dog or child’s pose; These poses were originally designed for the purpose of preparing your body for meditation. Like the effect of the asanas on meditation, the physical preparation of the Ayahuasca pre-diet; it goes hand in hand with being able to psychologically prepare for the healing experience.
Cleansing yourself of toxins gives you a great boost in the Ayahuasca journey; because, as Vincent Ravalee explains in the book entitled: «The Psychotropic Mind». All the toxins that we accumulate during our daily life, are the first things that Ayahuasca will attack.
When you cleanse those toxins in advance, it is easier for Wachuma and mother Ayahuasca to work in your body; because there are fewer «barriers» to cross. By following the diet, you ensure your ability to get the most out of your trip; and reach deeper levels of spiritual psychic understanding.
Each shaman, Ayahuasquero or Ayahuasca retreat varies in specific restrictions. In the Huacaria community we have a series of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual diets that you must follow rigorously to have a deep and healing experience with Ayahuasca.
Our Matsigenka Restrictions are:
Proper body preparation reduces the risks of experimenting, difficulties and intense purging during the ceremony with the mother Ayahuasca. In addition, to following a proper diet, you show your commitment and intentions to heal yourself and know your own divinity.
Foods Containing Tyramine.
Ayahuasca, specifically; the Banisteriopsis Caapi, which is a vine plant, and one of the principal ingredients in the Ayahuasca brew. Is an MAO-inhibitor, meaning it temporarily inhibits the activation of the monoamine oxidase (MAO) an enzyme that is essential to process the amino acid tyramine.
if you ingest an MAO inhibitor, such as: Ayahuasca and eat foods high in tyramine; it can quickly reach dangerous levels. This can cause a severe increase in blood pressure and require emergency treatment.
You should avoid products that contains tyramine; 2 weeks before the Ayahuasca retreat and 1 week, after taking it.
The best way to prepare our temple, that is, our body, is to eat a diet rich in organic foods. Foods that contain preservatives are not recommended at all for a proper and healthy diet before an Ayahuasca ceremony. It is recommended to follow a diet based on fruits, vegetables and seeds.
Other foods you should avoid:
In addition to foods high in tyramine, you should avoid condiments, very acidic foods, salt and sugar in excess; these contain toxins that are difficult to eliminate from our body, and also that obstruct the purgative and healing energy of plant medicine.
Avoid all Type of Animal Products
Currently many animals used as a source of food, are full of chemicals; from vaccines, antibiotics to hormones, and are raised and slaughtered inhumanely.
Unless you are consuming organically raised animals or wild animals from the jungle. It is best to avoid any industrialized animal product.
It is mandatory not to consume industrialized products or animals; because you consume not only the substance of those foods, but also the energy of them. So, if you consume an animal, which was full of inorganics and chemicals and spent its entire life miserably crammed into a pen or barn; only to finally be slaughtered, in masse, in a mechanized way, you also ingest the negative energy and traumatic experience of that animal.
Prescription Drugs
3 weeks leading up to the Ayahuasca ceremony; we strongly suggest that you stop the following prescription drugs:
Street Drugs
These includes:
Sex and Masturbation
Avoiding a sexual and energetic exchange 2 weeks before and after your Wachuma and Ayahuasca retreat in Cusco is essential for a better experience.
Sex, masturbation or even any exchange of bodily fluids, energetic and spiritual, can deplete the energy support available to you and thus inhibit the effectiveness of the sacred plants to teach and guide you.
Mental Preparation
The mental, emotional and spiritual diet is as important as the physical diet for a successful ceremony with the mother Ayahuasca. In our Huacaria village, the mental preset would include staying in relative solitude and minimizing useless chatter and gossip. In industrialized countries; a modern diet would definitely include: a fast from videos, TV, radio, movies, news, and social media.
You should spend as many days as possible, before your Ayahuasca ceremony, doing activities such as: meditation, mindfulness practice and yoga to mention a few. Contemplation walks through forests, mountains, riverbanks, ocean shores. Also take a walk at sunrise and sunset to receive solar energy, walk at night, it is much better if it is a full moon, so you fully receive the energy of the stars and planets. Start connecting directly with nature, even before your appointment with Ayahuasca.
It is very risky and can bring you a bad experience; if you don’t do your diet responsibly and strictly.
