You will cross Lake Sandoval by canoe, take a short trail off the main road, and about 1 km along the way, there is a special spot where every morning parrots and macaws gather to eat tree bark, which is very rich in minerals. Dozens of blue, yellow, and red macaws take turns feeding on the minerals in the dead palms or the palm trees where they nest. On the way back from the parrot spectacle, we have the opportunity to see the friendly family of giant otters that are very active at that time in the lake. The giant otters eat an average of 8 pounds of fish per day (4 kilos).

The Tambopata tour on Lake Sandoval offers abundant wildlife, including: 6 species of monkeys, black caimans, more than 40 species of birds that live along the lake shore, all 5 species of kingfishers in Peru, and the most abundant group of Hoatzins. All the animals here are easy to photograph from the boats. You will return to the lodge for breakfast and a short rest before the next adventure of the day.

Then you will venture deep into the rainforest to see giant trees such as the kapok tree, the ironwood tree, and the Brazil nut tree. Your guide will show you and demonstrate how we harvest and market this product, which is so important to our local economy. Afterward, we will return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, you will paddle to an observation tower where you can appreciate a beautiful sunset and explore a different area of the lake in search of the various troops of monkeys, which are very active at this time of day. Brown capuchin monkeys and squirrel monkeys live in the forest near the lake. To end the day before dinner, you will take a night walk to see insects, tarantulas, and snakes in the Tambopata Reserve.

After our breakfast at dawn, we will board a boat to go in search of the appreciated giant otters and we can observe from very close as they are accustomed to observe them, ensuring a good photographic view and we can also observe different species of multicolored birds that give a special shade of trees and palms. and then begin the walk back to another lodge on the banks of the river Madre de Dios. After lunch, we will board our boat to go to the 400 meters long hanging bridge adventure, which is built on the highest trees of the jungle, 45 meters high, from where we will appreciate a spectacular panorama. In the evening after dinner, we will take a night walk to see a variety of insects, tarantulas and with a lot of luck we will be able to observe snakes.

After breakfast, you'll pack your belongings to leave the Sandoval Lake Reserve. You'll then take a tour of Monkey Island, where you can observe three types of monkeys: white capuchin monkeys, black capuchin monkeys, and squirrel monkeys. Afterward, you'll return to the city of Puerto Maldonado and we'll transfer you to the airport.
