How is a ayahuasca ceremony in the Peruvian Amazon jungle?
Ayahuasca ceremonies usually begin between 8 and 9 at night (ayahuasca ceremonies are also held during the day), however the traditional Amazonian form is to do it at night and in a circular construction called Maloca.
The step by step of an Ayahuasca ceremony
The Ayahuasquero shaman, hours before the ceremony, goes to the Maloca to organize the arrangement of the mats that the participants will use during the ceremony.
Afterwards he prepares to assemble the altar, which is made up of the bottle that contains the Ayahuasca brew, various master plants, stones, feathers, musical instruments and other items that the Ayahuasca shaman considers necessary.
At the time of the ceremony the shaman uses Mapacho or wild tobacco to open the Ayahuasca ceremony in a respectful manner. In this opening the teacher protects the environment from low vibration beings and calls the beings of light and high vibration. Each participant is Mapacheado or blown with Mapacho to protect his own aura.
Participants will have a few minutes to intend the process they want in the ceremony with Granny Ayahuasca and also to invoke their own beings of light and ancestors.
Subsequently, the ayahuasca shaman will call the participants one by one to ingest the Ayahuasca brew; However, before doing so they will have to hold the glass with both hands and intend the process they want again.
For about 15 minutes there will be absolute silence in the Maloca, only the noise of the animals that are around will be heard. During this time the Ayahuasca will begin to position itself throughout the body and the participant will feel a grinding sensation throughout the body.
The Ayahuasca shaman will begin by playing some instruments followed by Icaros or guiding songs. These sacred songs will be sung according to the need that the shaman perceives that the patient needs. These chants and playing of instruments last about 4 hours while the patient is in a trance.
During the time of the Ayahuasca ceremony, the coordinators are helping the patients with everything they need, there are many things that happen during an Ayahuasca ceremony.
Some patients vomit, others defecate and need to go to the bathrooms located near the Maloca, others cry, laugh or feel like dancing. All these forms of purging that the patient has will be assisted at all times by the coordinators and the shaman.
The ceremonies can last 4 hours or even much more, it all depends on the harmonization of Ayahuasca and the patient.
The ceremony closes with an Arkana, this is a sacred Icarus used to close Ayahuasca ceremonies correctly.
Finally, the coordinators will be in charge of taking each participant to their respective rooms.
Note: The integration and interpretation of visions are carried out the next day, after a diet breakfast.
